Outstanding REF Results for Nottingham and UCL Schools of Pharmacy

Both Schools of Pharmacy at University of Nottingham and UCL have had their reputation for world class research confirmed by the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF)REF results.

The results of the Research Excellence Framework 2014, which assesses the international quality of research outputs, environment and impact, have reinforced the outstanding reputation of both schools.

Nottingham’s School of Pharmacy has come joint 4th on quality of research and is the top UK Pharmacy School to be entered just as Pharmacy. 51% of its research was ranked 4* (world leading) and a further 41% as 3* (internationally excellent).

Of particular significance is that we are the only School of Pharmacy to have 100% of research at 4* in the 'Impact on Society’ category, showing that we are the most effective School in using our research to improve people’s lives through new medicines and innovation in the practice of Pharmacy as a profession.

The UCL School of Pharmacy was awarded the following profile:

47% - 4* (world leading), 40% - 3*(internationally excellent), 13% - 2* (internationally recognized), 0% - 1*(nationally recognized)

This accompanies an historic result for UCL as a whole whereby by using the metric power, which is the grade point average of the profile multiplied by the number of staff submitted, the university is now top in the UK for the first time. The UCL SOP result is above the average for the university, which makes the School’s achievement even more remarkable.

Particularly noteworthy was the fact that the research environment for UCL SOP was rated at 100% 4*, indicating a truly outstanding environment in which to perform research.
