Diagnostic Nanoparticle Success at The Globalization of Pharmaceutics Education Network (GPEN) 2016

A Poster prize was awarded to Nicholas J. Hobson (PhD student, UCL School of Pharmacy) at the Globalization of Pharmaceutics Education Network (GPEN) 2016, this year hosted in Lawrence by the University of Kansas (USA) for research conducted in the area of diagnostic nanoparticles.

This work is part of a larger body of research which seeks to use nanoparticles for simultaneous diagnostic and therapeutic applications (Theranostics). Micellar envelope technology has been used to create highly sensitive diagnostic nanoparticles, which could potentially be used for simultaneous disease visualisation and drug delivery.

GPEN is a biannual international meeting that focuses on increasing the exposure of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to science and culture at an international level. This year close to 300 people attended the meeting representing 22 countries, 52 universities and about 40 scientists from leading companies in the pharmaceutical industry. GPEN2016 saw the delivery of 49 podium presentations and 106 poster presentations by doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, followed by a number of short courses in key areas of pharmaceutical science.
