CDT Sandpit 2014
Students from the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Advanced Therapeutics and Nanomedicines joined academics and industry representatives on this two-day ‘sandpit’ event hosted at UCL School of Pharmacy in November, 2014. The purpose of the event was to stimulate the generation of exciting, innovative, and multi-disciplinary PhD projects.
Day 1 saw a series of activities and short ‘soapbox’ speeches from potential PhD supervisors in order to identify and hone research interests. Subsequently, Day 2 saw academics, CDT students, CDT alumni and industry representatives with broadly similar research interests sat together in order to generate the PhD projects.
Attendees included academics and CDT students from UCL School of Pharmacy and the University of Nottingham. Academics from several UCL departments including the Department of Biochemical Engineering, the Eastman Dental Institute, the Institute of Child Health and UCL Division of Medicine also participated in the event. Industrial representatives came from pharmaceutical companies partnered with the CDT including senior figures from Alliance Boots, AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, MedImmune and Pfizer.
The event was a great success and many exciting new PhD projects were generated for the CDT students.
