Second Career Breakfast Club with Kevin Shakesheff

Kevin Shakesheff came to the latest breakfast club confessing he doesn't function well before 9 o'clock!!

Early start!

Despite that, he gave the students excellent advice on their early careers: to focus on being very good at what they do practically and to extend this to more techniques and a unique combination of them at the level of a post-doc.

Explaining his career choices, strongly influenced by his personal life

A successful academic is knowing what problems to work on; he learnt this first hand in Bob Langer's lab in USA in the 90's. When asked what he enjoyed the most he said "hearing something has worked after the months of things not working- the essence of research".
