ULLA Summer School

From 29 June to 5 July, members of our CDT travelled out to Helsinki to take part in this year’s ULLA summer school. We attended a week long programme of guest lectures and events, and we each presented a poster of our recent research work.

ULLA invites approximately 120 postgraduate students from the pharmacy departments of the universities of Paris, Parma, UCL, Leuven, Leiden, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Uppsala, and Helsinki, to be taught for the day by leading academics from these institutions.

It was a great opportunity to meet and share opinions with PhD candidates from around Europe, broadening horizons about the scope of pharmaceutical research and forging new links. As a CDT, we all took part in a walking tour, a sports day on the beach, a visit to Helsinki town hall, and a sauna by Helsinki’s harbour.

The city itself was a fascinating place to visit in midsummer. The sun would never fully set. Many of our CDT group travelled out to explore an eerie 18th century sea fort inhabited by geese and hares called Suomenlinna.

We would like to thank ULLA and its sponsors for making this excellent opportunity possible, and to the organising team in Helsinki who assembled a wonderful programme, and did a very good job of ensuring it ran smoothly. It was a truly memorable experience for every one of us.
