Pharmacy outreach event - June 2019
On 24 and 26 June, students, academics and technical staff from the School of Pharmacy and the CDT in Advanced Therapeutics and Nanomedicines hosted a visit for over 100 enthusiastic year two and three children and teachers from Forest Fields Primary School and St Peters School in Ruddington at the School of Pharmacy, University of Nottingham. The children took part in four different activities: a lecture by Dr Snow Stolnik on medicines followed by them making their own medicine (a potion!!), learning about targeted drug delivery in the body, and then experimenting with solids, liquids and gases. Children were so excited and inspired to come to the university in the future saying “I want to come here!”
We would like to thank all our volunteers from the CDT and the School of Pharmacy for making this event happen: Valentina Hashad, Chloe Stewart, Wanshan Feng, Claudio Tomi Andrino, Athina Liaskoni, Lee Hibbett, Elizabeth Clark, Barbara Rampersad, Alice Brookes, Rebecca Rickaby, John Shaw, Anne Webber, Hilary Collins and Colin Wills.
The outreach event was organised by Dr Maria Marlow from the CDT in Advanced Therapeutics and Nanomedicines and Suzy Underwood from the School of Pharmacy.
We received some lovely feedback from the children:
"I really enjoyed the morning I really liked the activity when we killed the cancer the chance of me being a scientist is 89%. It inspired me of science."
