Industry speakers contribute to CDT training in Medicines as Complex Products

Dr Matt Ling from Catalent Pharma Solutions (Nottingham, UK) gave a presentation on the development of poorly soluble drugs into an appropriate oral tablet.  His presentation also included data from research sponsored by Catalent and undertaken by alumna Dr Gudrun Fridgeirsdottir (now also working for Catalent). He described how Gudrun’s statistical material/process model had contributed to increasing the understanding and efficiency of the development process.

Another alumna from the School of Pharmacy, Dr Laura Mason now working at Upperton Pharm Solutions Ltd (Nottingham, UK) as their Director of Business Operations, gave an insight into spraying drying. Spray drying is used extensively in the pharmaceutical industry and is widely used for the stabilisation of biomolecules (proteins, peptides, monoclonal antibodies, enzymes, vaccines).
