Chloe Stewart's training project placement in AstraZeneca

Over the past 3 months I have been undertaking research within a drug product development project at AstraZeneca (Macclesfield). This project particularly appealed to me as it focussed on the use of pharmaceutical engineering methods in formulation development, which as a pharmacist was completely new to me. The breadth of multidisciplinary technical expertise I have encountered has been integral to the success of this project but equally invaluable to my industrial experience were the opportunities to visit other departments, such as chemical development, regulatory affairs and the large-scale manufacturing plant. These activities have provided me with a much broader insight into the ‘bench-to-bedside’ journey of a drug product, which complements my previous clinical experience. Ultimately, I could not have had a more positive and engaging experience and greatly appreciate the opportunity from AstraZeneca and the CDT.
