CDT Spring Colloquium 2019: Day 1 GSK visit

The CDT would like to thank Paul and his team for organising an exciting and informative day at the GSK Stevenage site. The morning lectures focussed on different research aspects within the drug development unit: Andy Nichols gave a presentation on the role of bio-imaging in drug development showing fantastic detailed images. Dave Pearce spoke about his work in drug product packaging with e.g. one aim being to enable all patients easier access to the drugs via modification of packaging. Please find the following Cambridge University link for more information on inclusive design.

Alec Simpson gave an overview on the role and capabilities of the Global Spectroscopy unit and Rita Majithiya spoke about her work in Cell and Gene Therapy. The CDT students presented posters of their research during a networking lunch. CDT students and staff then got the opportunity to visit the Bio-imaging unit and the Global Spectroscopy unit both with a fantastic collection of scientific instruments. The CDT would like to thank Steve Thomas, Andy West, Andy Edwards, Carla Newman, Peter Marshall, Andrea Domingues-Goncalvez and Sally Millican for co-ordinating and facilitating tours of the bioimaging and global spectroscopy centres, as well as facilitating the overall conduct of the day.
