CDT Winter Colloquium at Pfizer
The second day of the CDT Winter Colloquium was hosted by our industry partner Pfizer in Sandwich, Kent. We would like to thank Dr Martin Rowland and Dr Alastair Coupe for organising this fantastic and wonderful informative day. We would additionally like to thank all Pfizer staff for their time and invaluable expertise.
The day started with presentations by Dr Elena Soto on ‘The Role of Clinical Pharmacology within a Pharmaceutical Company’ and Mrs Cheryl English on ‘The Role of Global Chemistry Manufacturing and Controls within a Pharmaceutical Company’.

Pfizer then offered different activities to different cohorts: A tour of all facilities for our ‘younger’ two cohorts and a CV clinic and a Pharmaceutical Sciences Q&A Session for our two ‘older’ cohorts.
The CV clinic was run by Drs James McGovern, Karen Kelly and Mark McAllister and also included talks on the ‘Recruitment perspective from a hiring manage’ and the ‘Recruitment perspective from a prospective applicant’. Students received feedback and advice on how to improve and tweak their CVs when applying for a role.
The Pharmaceutical Sciences Q&A Session included presentations by scientific staff (Drs Kevin Back, Iain Gladwell, Dave Henderson, Andrew Barrett, Neil Clayton and Neil Dawson) on their role within Pharmaceutical Sciences, how their role contributes overall to the development of novel medicines and which skill sets applicants need to be interesting for their team.
After a great lunch and poster session run by our first year students, the afternoon focussed on ‘Advanced pharmaceutical analysis and processes’ and ‘Paediatrics’. We would like to thank all student speakers and our student chairs Sadie Swainson and Karolina Dziemidowicz.
